Scales to check gas cylinder weight

The Government will impose a law on gas retail outlets to have a scale allowing customers to check the weight of gas cylinders, Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operative and Consumer Service Minister Bandula Gunawardana said.

Speaking on 'low weight' petroleum gas cylinders found in the market, the Minister said the Government will take steps to have a scale at every petroleum gas outlet.

This will come into effect by December 1 and the gazette notification will be issued in due course.

"Customers can then weigh the gas cylinder when they purchase it. The Weights and Measures Department will check and seal the scale," Minister Gunawardana added.
