Grain cultivation on 800 acres

The Ranketha Production Marketing Company Ltd of Hanguranketha has made arrangements to grow kurakkan, gingelly, millet, kollu and maize on 800 acres of lands in the Hanguranketha and Walapane divisional secretariat areas in the forthcoming Maha season.

The Department of Agriculture will provide seeds to the farmers for their cultivations.

A suitable climate prevails in the Hanguranketha and Walapane divisional secretariat areas for those cultivations. There is a demand for these grains in the market today. About 80 per cent of kurakkan is imported from India.
