NSB launch MasterCard Debit Card

MasterCard Worldwide, a leader in advancing global commerce and National Savings Bank announced the launch of the bank's first ever debit card; the MasterCard Debit Card.

National Savings Bank's (NSB) customers will for the first time have the privilege of using a MasterCard unembossed Debit Card, displacing the need to use cash when making daily purchases.

The MasterCard Debit Card will provide National Savings Bank customers with speedy transactions, convenience and increased safety. The MasterCard Debit Card combines all the uses of a standard ATM card including access to the cardholder's bank account.

Cardholders will be able to access their personal funds to make purchases domestically and overseas, over the phone and on the Internet.

Cardholders of the Debit MasterCard card will also benefit from receiving a monthly statement highlighting the transactions and withdrawals made, thus giving the cardholder complete control over their spending.

The card is accepted at more than 27.3 million acceptance locations around the world that display the MasterCard and Maestro logos and at over 1.9 million ATM locations globally.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Upali Gunarathna Chairman NSB said, "Master Card Debit product is meant for customers, to fulfill a dream of their's, who will be able to transact at any ATM Merchant location, displaying Master Card Logo.

"I consider this unique opportunity for more than 15 million customers of National Savings Bank.

I am also pleased to mention that among the other banks in Sri Lanka, we are the pioneers to introduce the "Debit Unembossed" card to the market.

Our customers will be privileged to use this card for the first time in Sri Lanka and transact with merchant locations with ease, without going through the hassle and taking a risk of carrying cash or wallet - but now merely with a simple plastic card which could be used for transactions easily and securely," he said.

NSB has initiated several other IT products, and I am happy to participate at this launch and many more are to come during this year and early next year.
