Pushpakumara makes last minute pull out
Sarath PREMATHILAKE from Beijing
Sri Lanka’s last hopes of making an impact was shattered when Udaya
Pushpakumara was forced to withdraw from the men’s long jump event at
the 13th Paralympic Games which is now in progress in Beijing, China.
Pushpakumara who had earlier participated in the javelin throw event
was schedule to take the field today along with 14 other competitors.
However he was forced to pull out from the race following medical
advice.
Pushpakumara was the last competitor from the Sri Lankan camp to take
the field after the unsuccessful efforts from skipper Sandun Wasana
Perera, Shantha Kumara, Lal Pushpakumara and Upali Rajakaruna.
Meanwhile hosts China continue to head the medals tally with just two
days of competition remaining. They have collected a total of 165 medals
including 66 gold, 55 silver and 44 bronze medals.
