EWIS will collaborate with the EPF Board to digitalise EPF member
information to provide a more efficient automated service for its
members.
General Manager - Enterprise Solutions EWIS Nirmal Pieris told Daily
News Business under this project all EPF members will have an electronic
smart card and their ID number as their EPF number in the near future.
Members will be identified through fingerprints.
The launch of this project will prevent fraud when obtaining EPF dues
of the members.
“This smart card comes with an electronic chip which will have the
photo and fingerprint stored in the chip itself and EPF members will be
able to check the EPF balance of their account, the last contribution
they made to the EPF through the kiosk machines which will be installed
in 54 district labour offices.
“At the initial stage we expect to install about five kiosk
machines,” he said.
“Some employees have more than one EPF account due to them working
for several organisations and under this project they will be able to
have one account eventhough they change their working places regularly.
School leavers can register and have their EPF account to be used when
they start working,” he said.
Indirectly this project will encourage employers who do not
contribute to the EPF, he said. As the first phase of this project, we
need to capture data of EPF members such as their fingerprints,
photographs.
This needs to be collected through companies and this has to be done
without interrupting day to day operations of these companies.
“As a pilot test we collected data of a few companies and there was a
good response from these companies and their employees. We expect to
develop the data collection process with the EPF Board considering the
day to day operations of the companies.
“However it is easy to collect employee data from companies who
maintain validated databases,” Peiris said. We expect that data
capturing will be complete within six to eight months for all the
members, he said.
EWIS has collaborated with HP and NEC in Japan and Crossmatch of
Germany to deploy the most advanced state-of-the-art technologies for
the project. |
