Career guidance workshop

The annual career guidance workshop organised by the '93 Group of the Ananda College Old Boy's Association will be held on September 20 at the college auditorium.

"The workshop will focus on medicine, engineering, banking and finance, commerce, business information technology, hospitality and tourism.

Young school leavers who are waiting their GCE (A/L) results are expected to address the workshop.


Magistrate's compassion saves wild boar

The kindness of a judicial officer has saved the life of a wild boar which was lying on the road with injuries sustained in an accident.

Kandy Chief Magistrate Sumudu Premachandra who saw the injured animal on Sunday (Poya Day) informed Kandy Police who in turn took it to the Veterinary Unit of Peradeniya where it was swiftly treated.

Kandy HQI Anuruddha Bandaranayake also took a personal interest in the matter. He said the animal is now out of danger.


Buddhist discussion

The next Buddhist English public panel discussion of the Colombo YMBA will be on Sunday, September 21 at 10 a.m. at its Borella building on "Practice of Vipassana". The Panellists are Prof. Rajah de Alwis, former Prof. of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa and Dhamma Weerakoon, former Director-General of the Department of Irrigation with Rajah Kuruppu as moderator.


Annual sessions

The Sri Lanka Economic Association will hold its Annual Sessions on September 19 and 20. The Sessional Theme will be Inflation, Competitiveness and Growth, which will be of great interest to public and private sector enterprise.

The Inaugural Session on Friday, September 19 will be from 4 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. will be followed by the theme Seminar on the following day. Saturday from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The Keynote address will be delivered by Prof. C. P. Chandrasekhar. Professor, Centre of Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.


 Unveiling of Anagarika Dharmapala statue

A statue of Anagarika Dharmapala will be unveiled on Wednesday, September 17 at 4.00 p.m. the birth anniversary of Anagarika Dharmapala at the Narahenpita junction.

This statue, which will be unveiled by Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, the Chief Guest at the event is constructed with funds collected by the Narahenpita Bodhiraja Samithiya.

Anagarkika Dharmasekera will present the commemorative oration.

The winners of the inter-school and inter-dhamma school essay competitions to commemorate the birth anniversary of Anagarika Dharmapala will be awarded prizes and certificates.


AGM

The eighth Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Air Force Regiment Past Members Club will be held on September 21 at 10 a.m. followed by the get together at Sri Palee Banquet Hall, 277/1, Galle Road, Idama, Moratuwa.  72nd AGM

The Ceylon Planters' society will hold its 72nd AGM on Saturday, September 20 at the Trans Asia Hotel, Colombo at 10 a.m. The annual social and dinner dance will also be held on Saturday, September 20 at Trans Asia Hotel, Colombo commencing 9 p.m.


Get together

The 104th Annual General Meeting and Get together of Prince of Wales College Old Boys' Association will be held on September 20.

As customary the day's proceedings will commence at 9 a.m. with a cricket match between old boys and present boys. In the afternoon there will be a rugger and a football match between the present boys and the old boys.

The Principal tea party will be at 4 p.m. followed by the opening of the new office of the Old Boys Association.

Launch of tele scripts

Five tele drama scripts written by Tilak Jayaratne based on the recent Sri Lankan history will be launched at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo on September 16 (today) at 3.00 p.m. Five tele drama scripts on Kadulla, Nadunana Puththu, Dande Lu Gini, Wanaspathi, and Kampitha Vil published by Surasa Publishers will be launched at this ceremony.


Role of media in agriculture development

The SLBC in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture will be organising a four-day workshop at the Agricultural Research Centre, Gannoruwa, Peradeniya from September 16 to 19.

Fifty one participants comprising Programme Controllers and Agriculture Programme Producers from the SLBC Head Office, Colombo and Regional Services i.e. Ruhunu Sevaya, Kandurata Sevaya and Rajarata Sevaya will participate.

Directors and Agriculture Instructors from the Ministry of Agriculture, Farm Broadcasting Service, Ruhuna, Kandy, Anuradhapura and Narahenpita will also participate at the workshop.

The main object of the workshop is to identify the role of media in enhancing Agriculture productivity in the country.
