Two CT Scanners at the Kandy General Hospital and Sirimavo
Bandaranaike Children’s Hospital in Peradeniya have not been working for
the past several weeks.
The patients who need to get CT Scans done to determine their medical
condition are extremely inconvenienced and have been made to wait in a
long queue as a result.
In addition to the patients in these two hospitals, patients from
Ratnapura, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Baddulla get referred here for CT
Scans.
Emergency patients who need urgent medical treatment are being sent
to Colombo, some hundred miles away, just to get a CT Scan, Kandy
General Hospital Dr. Gamini Samarasinghe said.
Patients alleged that they have to pay large sums of money to private
hospitals and medical laboratories to get a CT Scan, in an emergency
situation.
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Children’s Hospital Director Y. Anwar said, she
is taking action to restore two CT scan machines in her hospital within
a couple of days.
Meanwhile, Kandy General Hospital Director said their MRI scanner was
also disfunctioning for the past few months. The agents have been
informed to repair the machine. |
