New way to business success

The Daily News Business would be publishing a series of articles on 'New way to business success' compiled by Nalaka Hewamadduma.

He says unlike a decade a ago today the world is flat and news that is happening in another continent gets to people within minutes.

 Nalaka Hewamadduma

Nalaka is an educator, speaker and a writer in peak performance, Mind body wellness and personal effectiveness. He inspires and informs people, helping them to realise their true potential.

Approximately 500,000 people have heard him as a key note speaker. He is a regular contributor to national newspapers and a frequent guest on TV and radio shows. He is a visiting lecturer at University of Moratuwa and Post Graduate Institute of Management; University of Sri Jayewardenepura and a consultant in Holistic Health and Fitness. He is also a certified Yoga Trainer.

He holds a BSc. Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Moratuwa and a MBA from Postgraduate Institute of Management. Nalaka started his career at Sri Lanka Air Force later he moved to the corporate sector and served for two multinational companies. Currently he is the Managing Director of Thumula Educare (Pvt) Ltd.

Similarly the concept in the corporate world too is changing. He says one has to prepare and train well in advance to succeed in business. "It's like the cricket team and no team can keep its winning streak simply by playing matches. "They have to practice as it makes them perfect," he said.

One of the biggest things that have changed in the corporate sector is that there is no separation for personal and professional life.

Some time a go an entrepreneur would tell not to call him on a Sunday since it's the day he spends in leisure and with his family.

"This is no longer applicable today," he said.

The BPO industry is a common example which is always put forward when entrepreneurs say not to call them at night.

Today many corporates also make the family part of his or her business and profession.

Two theories can be applied in sports with one played to win and the second played not to lose.

'Play to win 'concept has a better chance of winning and this can be adapted to life as well.

"To be a Winner its you who can make the difference through enlightened action," he said.

"One can get lasting results through positive behavioral changes. Developing a 'can do' attitude would result in resolving peoples issues.

"Identify and overcome self-defeating behaviors.

Enhance pride in performance. Turn activities into results.

Create an energetic work environment

Develop a culture that creates trust. Do the right thing for the right reason. Prosper in an ever changing climate," he added.

Being happy and overcoming stress and creating wellbeing for higher Performance too is another essential for success of life.

Today more than any other time in the history of humanity, people are facing stress and tension that are beyond their control. Stressed people feel less energetic and more fatigued.

It is so obvious that everyone knows it, but despite this most of us do not take correct remedies.

Thousands and thousands are turning to tranquillisers, sleeping pills, pain killers, alcohol and so on in vain attempt to cope.

'BEING HAPPY' is an interactive workshop with a practical guidance.

This will enlighten you to bring stress under control and enhance vitality, not only at physical level but on mental, emotional and spiritual levels too.Key benefits of being happy are Boost your energy and vitality at any stage of life.

Overcome stress and experience greater peace of mind. Develop a fit and beautiful body.

Increase your powers of concentration and discipline. Stabilise and restore the body's natural systems for optimum health.

Balance work life with family life in the midst of life's pressure. Improve performance and effectiveness at work.

A relaxed yet alert and happy individual performs at a greater efficiency level and is for more creative and effective than his/her tensed counterpart. Responsibility.

Among the other key changes that are seen in the work place is accepting responsibility. "Some time ago staff were not responsible and would pass the 'job' to another person stating its not his or her area. In addition when a 'blunder' had occurred the same theory was put to place.

In recent times there is a change of mindset where a person would accept responsibility and apologise.

Today the world has moved a step further and people have to show results.

Liberal person

A person should be open minded person and should guide the others also in that manner. "No one can survive being negative.

Inovative

In the fast changing world people have to innovate to keep afloat. No one can keep on repeating the same thing that was done the previous year.

Be venerable

A person should always act in good fait and one important thing to remember is that one should act in honor to command honor.

Being energetic

Being energetic too can help a person as an active person would always deliver better results.

In addition to these, Hewamadduma would be also touching on ways and means of delighting customers to keep them glued to a one particular brand.
