Semi-finalists found in under 23 cricket tourney

The Sri Lanka Schools under 20, Colts, CC NCC, and SSC, have booked their places in the semi-finals of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) organised under 23 Division One tournament.

The success of the Schools Under 20 team is even more significant considering the fact that they were making their debut in a division one tournament.

The schoolboys had the better of Moors SC on the first innings in their final outing and will take on SSC in this weekend’s important semi-final fixture.

The other semi-final will be between NCC and Colts CC who trounced Kandy YCC by an innings in their final group match. NCC of course had to be satisfied with a first innings victory over Sri Lanka Army SC.

Rajeeva (6\51) wrecks Kandy YCC

Leg spinner Rajeeva Weeraisnghe captured six wickets for 51 to help Colts CC trounce Kandy YCC outright by a massive margin of an innings and 244 runs in their SLC under 23 division one tournament match concluded at Havelock Park yesterday.

Kandy YCC: 56 and 188 (S. Wickremarachchi 79, Y. Chanaka 37, R. Weerasinghe 6 for 51, L. Rodrigo 3 for 45).

Colts CC: 313 for 7 decl.

Sachith takes 5/90

Sachith Pathirana snapped up five wickets for 90 runs to steer the Sri Lanka Schools under 20 team good first innings victory over Moors SC in their SLC under 23 division one tournament match concluded at Braybrooke Place yesterday.

Schools under 20: 375 for 9 decl. and 86 for 8 (D. Karunaratne 31, D. Udugamasuriya 4 for 7, C. Keerthisinghe 3 for 13).

Moors SC: 317 (D. Rukshan 88, D. Udugamasuriya 30, S. Weerasinghe 120, C. Bandara 42, S. Pathirana 5 for 90, I. Jayaratne 4 for 64).

Easy for SSC

SSC cruised to an easy first innings victory over Panadura SC in their SLC under 23 division one tournament match concluded at Maitland Place yesterday.

Panadura SC: 116 and 236 for 9 (R. Cooray 64, M. Fonseka 36, M. Fernando 4 for 67, S. Karunanayake 2 for 36.

SSC: 179 (N. Perera 45, R. Kern 33, I. Pushpakumara 5 for 83, M. Fonseka 4 for 61).

NCC beat Army

Damith Mapa hammered a splendid 130 as NCC defeated Sri Lanka Army SC on the first innings in their SLC under 23 Division One Tournament match concluded at Maitland Place yesterday.

Army SC: 124 and 170 for 5 (C. Silva 54 n.o, C. Soysa 20 n.o, R. Laksiri 2 for 28, D. Dahanayake 2 for 20).

NCC: 304 for 6 decl (D. Mapa 130, D. Dahanayake 52, E. Gangoda 68 n.o, C. Silva 3 for 80, T. de Silva 2 for 94).
