Two dead as three-wheeler carrying hooch crashes with train

Two persons were killed and another fatally injured when a three-wheeler collided with a Matara bound train from Vavuniya at Batuwatta, Ragama yesterday morning. Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunesekera said two persons died on the spot while the third who received critical injuries was rushed to Ragama hospital.

According to Police, the ill-fated trishaw had being carrying a large stock of moonshine at the time of the accident.

Sources said the trishaw had by-passed the level crossing before colliding head on with the train. Hospital sources said the injured person was in a critical condition. Police are investigating.
