Rain spoils MCA cricket
Rain proved a spoiler for the second successive week-end, as it did
to the quarter finals, rain did it once again to abandoned the
semi-finals of the Janashakthi Insurance Co. Ltd, sponsored,
MCA-Division ‘G’ 30 overs League tournament, continued last weekend.
Unbeaten, John Keells Group ‘C’ and Dialog Telekom went through to
the Final having won the ‘bowl-out’ contest, after both matches were
abandoned due to rain at the MCA ground on Saturday.
In the morning semi-final between Dialog Telekom and HSBC ‘C’ came to
a halt at 11.52 am, due to rain, HSBC ‘C’ batting first were 30 for 2 in
3.2 overs. No further play was possible.
In the ‘Bowl Out’ method applied to determined the winner, held at
the MCA indoor nets, Dialog Telekom beat HSBC ‘C’ 2 nil, Shehan
Wijesundara and Mohamed Fardy each hitting the single wicket once.
The afternoon semi-final was abandoned at 3.05 pm without a ball
being bowled. John Keells Group ‘C’ (unbeaten so far) beat HNB ‘C’ in
the ‘Bowl Out’ method one-nil, the solitary target achiever was L.P.T
Harsha, who was the bowler who hit the single wicket in their Quarter
final match against McLarens Group, which too was decided in the similar
fashion.
The final between,John Keells ‘C’ and Dialog Telekom will take place
this Sunday, (Poya day), at the MCA ground, commencing 10.00 am.
Janashakthi Insurance Co. Ltd., is sponsoring the tournament for the
fourth successive year and their top Management comprising Gamika de
Silva & Chathura Udawatte (both Brand Managers), Tilan Wijesekera (Head
of Marketing) and Ravi Liyanage (GM, Sales and Marketing) will grace the
chief guest and guest of honour at the Final. |
