President greets Zardari

President Mahinda Rajapaksa telephoned President Asif Ali Zardari yesterday and congratulated him on assuming office of the President.

Both leaders exchanged views on promoting bilateral relations, which are based on mutual trust and commonality of interest in maintaining regional peace and development.

The two leaders agreed to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of forthcoming 63rd session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York later this month.

Former JVP MP questioned over immigration offence

Former JVP MP Anuradha Polgampola was questioned by the CID over an immigration offence yesterday.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said yesterday that the CID had summoned Polgampola for questioning over the allegation of a fraudulent visa to enter a person on his list during his recent visit to Japan.

The CID are conducting further inquires.
