Forged currency: Suspects granted bail

Two foreign nationals who had been remanded in connection with
possessing forged Indian currency notes were grtanted bail by Acting
Colombo Fort Magistrate Sandun Vithana yesterday.
The two suspects were ordered to furnish cash bail in a sum of
Rs.25,000 each and a bond of Rs.200,000 each with two surties. The Court
also ordered the suspects to appear before the CID every Sunday between
9 a.m. and 12 noon.
The Fort Police told Court that they will obtain assistance from the
Indian Police to ascertain whether the Indian currency notes recovered
by the Police are genuine or not.
The other suspect from Piliyandala who had been remanded in
connection with the same offence was released earlier on bail in a sum
of Rs.25,000 cash and a bond of Rs.400,000 with a surety.
The Fort Police had recovered Indian forged currency to the value of
over Rs. 8.3 million.
Granting bail the Court directed the two suspects to appear in Court
again on September 24. |
