Schools granted funds for purchasing books

The Education Ministry yesterday took steps to allocate Rs 34.8 million for 329 national schools to purchase books during the literary month on the directive of Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.

Over 31 selected schools will also get Rs.6.2 million for book purchases during this month. In addition, the ministry has set apart Rs. 106.32 million for renovation, maintenance and educational research in schools.

The Ministry said there are over 5,170 school libraries and 2,188 multimedia units islandwide.
