More benefits await principals, teachers

COLOMBO: The Education Ministry on the advice of Minister Susil Premajayantha has made arrangements to provide short and long term benefits for principals and teachers to overcome salary anomalies prevalent for a long period.

Principals and teachers will get promotions based on their qualifications while they will also get a salary increment.

The Education Ministry also plans to establish a `Supra Grade' for 12,000 teachers who will be entitled to obtain higher salaries.

Teachers and principals will get a monthly salary increment between Rs. 1,005 to Rs. 2,685 after the Teachers' Services Minute is implemented. It has already been approved by the Cabinet.
