Six get Sarvodaya Awards
Six individuals who have rendered effective services to society at
both national and international levels will receive the Sarvodaya Trust
Fund annual awards at a ceremony in October.
The six have been selected from nominations received in response to
notices published in the newspapers for their dedicated services to
society in a variety of fields related to their skills.
The Awardees are Professor Sunil Ariyaratne for his public service in
the fields of education, literature and mass media; Dr. Upali Pilapitiya
for his national service in the field of research in indigenous
medicine; Kalasuri Dr. Jayasiri Semage who has elevated local arts and
crafts into the international arena; Nilakarawasan Lankadewa Jayawardena
who renders a public service through environmental conservation and for
the advancement of the farming community; Jonathan V. Thamber who has
dedicated his life time for public service; and Rohana Beddage who has
rendered an immense service to music and a variety of segments in the
field of arts. |
