FAO boost for rice production

US$ 500,000 project to cover four districts:

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has announced plans to boost rice production in Sri Lanka. This will especially cover areas hit hard by recent floods or conflict.

First consignment of school text books sent to Jaffna

School textbooks will soon be transported to Jaffna by road in the near future, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said. The Minister was addressing the official ceremony held yesterday at the Bandaranaike Jetty to send school textbooks to Jaffna for the 2009 academic year.
