Minister India bound for Health Ministers' meeting

Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva left for India to participate in the South East Asian Countries' Health Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi today, a Ministry spokesman said.

He said the World Health Organisation (WHO) has organised the meeting to discuss the impact of climate change on human health and several other health problems which have an impact on the region. Minister de Silva will take part in this meeting in his capacity as the Chairman of the Executive Board of the WHO.

He will hold discussions with the Indian Foreign Minister to obtain Indian assistance to upgrade the Sri Lankan health sector. Minister de Silva will brief Health Ministers on certain specific health problems in Sri Lanka such as the kidney disease spreading in several Provinces, Chikungunya and Rat Fever.
