More showers expected

Heavy rains accompanied by thunder activities experienced in Colombo and the suburbs is due to a disturbance in the lower part of the atmosphere. The situation is expected to minimise today, Meteorologist Chaminda Silva told the Daily News yesterday.

But showers will be experienced in the Southern and Western Provinces with the ending of the South-West Monsoon, he said. According to Meteorology Department sources, the highest rainfall recorded during the last week was 108.7 mm at Katunayaka.

Thundershowers can also develop in several places in the Uva, Eastern and Central parts of the country during the afternoons and evenings in the coming four days.
