14 nabbed for extortion

Fourteen suspects were arrested including two women to 41 extortion cases in the Trincomalee District. Fourteen persons who failed to give money were murdered by the extortionists, police said.

The CID arrested the 14 suspects three weeks ago following extortions reported in the last two months in the Trincomalee district, Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said.

SSP Gunasekera said 14 extortion cases had been identified. Fourteen persons who refused to pay money were killed by two extortionists.
