Magistrate escapes in Jaffna blast

A Magistrate conducting an inquiry into a murder miraculously escaped death last afternoon around 1.30 p.m. when Tiger terrorists in the Jaffna peninsula activated a powerful landmine against a military Unicorn (Buffel) in Sarasalai while the Army was providing a security escort to the Magistrate and the place.

Tiger terrorists had planted the powerful mine after the Magistrate has reached the location of the crime for a Magisterial inquiry in the company of the Army and Police. The Army vehicle, by the side of the road, was providing security and surveillance on the Magistrate when the terrorists activated the mine a few minutes after inquires began.

Three soldiers in the vehicle received injuries in the blast.

However, a soldier succumbed to injuries later on in the hospital.

The Jaffna Police are investigating.
