RCGC’s golf for charity a success

The raising of funds for charitable causes, was initiated in the year
2004 by the Royal Colombo Golf Club, by annually setting apart a poya
day each year for this benevolent purpose through a golf tournament. The
fifth of its kind was held last Saturday at the RCGC to collect funds to
complete the construction of a 24 bed elders home for the blind at
Kadawatha, the awards ceremony was held the following day.
There were around 240 golfers taking part, with the eventual winner
in the ‘A’ division being the captain of RCGC, Tissa Jayasinghe, with a
score of 37 points and the overall winner was Prasanna Madanayake with
44 points.
At the awards ceremony, where Minister Sarath Amunugama was the chief
guest, amongst others was an auction and a large amount of money was
collected for this worthy cause.
Also seen was the philanthropic hand of the captain of the RCGC,
Tissa Jayasinghe, when he donated a property including a house at
Bandaragama to the visually handicap was very much appreciated by the
advisor to the Sri Lanka Federation for the visually handicapped Dr.
Wickrema Weerasooriya, the prime mover of the charity golf tournament. |
