Tiger gathering point in Vavuniya attacked

Air Force MI-24 gunships carried out a fresh air attack targeting an LTTE gathering point, north west of Omanthai, Vavuniya yesterday morning.

Air Force spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said Air Force fighters raided an LTTE gathering point with MI-24 helicopters at around 6.30 a.m.

“The target was seven km north-west of Omanthai,” he added.

The air raid was conducted following precise ground intelligence information and air surveillance.

Meanwhile, Security Forces handed over two LTTE bodies to the ICRC yesterday in Vavuniya. The Tigers were killed in Thunukkai last Friday.

According to Military sources, following a fierce fight in the general area of Thunukkai last Friday, the Army 57-division recovered the two Tiger bodies.
