Vote early, says JVP
Dharma SRI ABEYRATNE
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, General Secretary, Tilvin Silva urged
voters to go to polling stations early disregarding threats and
intimidation from political rivals.
Addressing the media, Silva pointed out that there were moves to step
up violence during the next two days.
“Considering the on-going situation it is acceptable that more
violence will follow to discourage voters from casting their votes.”
He said investigations into complaints of election violence conducted
by police are biased. “Even though many incidents have been reported the
inquiries of the police are ineffective,” he said.
“However the JVP would get the lion-share of votes at the election as
the voters are fed up with two major parties,” he said.
He said the JVP has taken steps to make the Elections Commissioner
aware of election violence and to safeguard the rights of voters. He
praised the Elections Commissioner for taking steps to minimise election
violence while ensuring voters’ rights. |
