172 incidents - NPOC

COLOMBO: The National Polls Observation Centre (NPOC), a polls monitoring body set up by a network of professionals reported yesterday that they had received information regarding 172 pre-polls incidents.

There were 83 complaints from Anuradhapura, 25 from Polonnaruwa, 31 from Kegalle and 33 from Ratnapura. These included nine serious incidents and 18 less serious incidents.

Party-wise, the UNP has made 54 complaints and the UPFA, 62.

The JVP has made 49 complaints, the NPOC said. The NPOC will monitor the situation on polls day and the post-polls period as well, a spokesman said.
