Seven escape from uncleared areas

Seven civilians including a Pastor sought Security Forces protection fleeing from the LTTE grip in Chilawatti to the Navy detachment in Kallarawa, Mullaitivu fishing marshalling point yesterday.

Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said a family comprising six persons including parents, three sons and two daughters and a novice paster (19) who is a relative of the family had arrived by a fibreglass dinghy boat from LTTE dominant area and sought protection at the Navy detachment in Kallarawa at around 12.30 am. According to defence sources the family was living in Mullaitivu from the beginning of their lives with a substantial income as the father was a businessman possessing four fishing boats out of which two had been robbed by the Tiger cadres.
