The Gammedda development programme initiated by the Urban Development
and Sacred Area Development Ministry under the Mahinda Chinthana will
eradicate shortcomings in rural villages, Urban Development and Sacred
Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardane said.
Villagers will be involved in this project as they will get the
opportunity to sell their produce at a higher price, the Minister said.
Minister Gunawardane made these observations after handing over the
Kekirawa Wayaulpatha Gammedda project to the beneficiaries constructed
at a cost of Rs 1.3 million. Minister Gunawardane said the Gammedda
project will give a new lease of life to the farmer community in the
area. It is no doubt that the Gammedda project will become the juncture
of the rural development and will facilitate the development activities.
As there are storing facilities available, the farmers can store their
harvest and can release it for a fair price to the market according to
the demand. Due to this, the income of the farmers will increase while
the inconveniences caused to the farmers in searching for fair prices
for their harvest will also decrease by a considerable level.
Urban Development Minister Rohana Dissanayake said, “by getting
public involvement in the Gammedda Project a new development culture
will emerge.
This project will be expanded to other areas.
The Urban Development Authority is paying attention not only on the
urban development activities but also to rural development activities.
This programme has been implemented keeping in mind the rural
community, Minister Dissanayake added. |
