Deserters ordered back
Soldiers who have failed to report for duty and vacated posts for
want of leave have been ordered to report to their service units or
regiments. Failure to comply will result in the offenders being taken
into custody, Army authorities said.
Schools in plantations to be developed
The Youth Empowerment and Socio-economic Development Ministry has
allocated Rs. two million to develop schools in the estate sectors in
the Bulathkohupitiya and Ruwanwella divisions on a directive of the
Minister.
The Minister made this directive after visiting the Kegalle area and
received first-hand knowledge on the shortcomings of rural schools. The
funds will be allocated to the Bulathkohupitiya Tamil Vidyalaya, Levella
Vidyalaya. Runwanwella Chester Ford Tamil school, Ruwanwella School,
Primary School and Primary Sinhala schools.
Industrial exhibition
‘Pro-Food, Pro-Pack 2008’, industrial exhibition organised by the
Food Processors Association together with Industries Development
Ministry will he held at the BMICH on August 22, 23 and 24. About 125
food and packaging material exporters are expected to participate at the
exhibition.
“The occasion will be a good forum,” for the local exporters to
secure a market for their products, Industries Development Ministry
Addl. Secretary, R. V. D. Piyatilleke said. A section of the exhibition
will be set apart for agri-manufacturing development, where the modern
machinery, different raw materials will be displayed.
Applications called for Principal posts
Education Ministry has called for applications from officers in the
Education Administrative service, Grades I, II and III and G1 and 2-1 of
the Sri Lanka Principals service to fill up Principal vacancies in 16
national schools. Applications will be closed on August 25, 2008.

construction, died when an iron beam fell upon his head.
Lecture series
The monthly lecture of the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka will be
held at 5 p.m. on Monday August 25 at the Gamini Dissanayake Auditorium
of the Mahaweli Centre, No. 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The title of the lecture is “Pre Colonial Legal Systems of Sri Lanka”
presented by Preeni S. Witharanage. The lecture is open to the public.

Monthly lecture
The South Asia Peace Institute (SAPI) is organising a series of
monthly lectures on contemporary issues.
For August a discussion will be held based on the lecture on
“Prerogatives in a post-LTTE Sri Lanka” delivered by M. Malinda
Seneviratne, Consultant Director, Special Media Unit, Department of
Government Information and former member of the National Movement
Against Terrorism (NMAT). The lecture will be held on August 28,
Thursday from 5 to 6.30 p.m. at the SAPI seminar room.

National seminar
A national seminar on International Management Systems has been
organised by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) to be held on
August 26, Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Waters Edge,

The recital of Badur Mowlood will start today after Magrib prayers
and will continue until Isah prayers at the Nawala Jummah Mosque,
Rajagiriya.

Photo Exhibition
The National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka will hold its 14th
international photographic exhibition 2008 shortly.
Applications are now called from interested photographers, freelance
