Over 50 per cent of evaluators reported for duty at the G.C.E.
Advanced Level paper marking process which began yesterday, Examinations
Department sources said.
The Advanced Level paper marking process began yesterday at 20
evaluation centres in Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Galle and Matara
districts.
“Though there was a shortage of evaluators, the Examinations
Department has taken steps to normalise evaluation activities,” the
sources said.
The Examinations Department has been maintaining and updating the
evaluators for over 30 years.
These teachers are highly qualified and well-experienced on paper
marking and they have been evaluating answer scripts for a long period.
Therefore the Examinations Department would get their participation
with immediate effect,” Examinations Commissioner General Anura
Edirisinghe told the Daily News.
He said only the qualified evaluators would participate in the
evaluation process. Teachers will be engaged in the evaluation process
only if they have a degree,” he said.
Only graduate teachers will be used as evaluators. But the General
English and Common General Test papers are normally evaluated not only
by graduates but also Diploma and Trained teachers who are teaching the
particular subject at school, the Commissioner said.
