Lula says balanced development key to social equality
BRAZIL: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said
Monday that balanced development in different regions of the country is
the key to building a more equalitarian society.
The Growth Acceleration Program (GAP), implemented by the current
government, will help quicken the process, Lula said in his weekly radio
program "Breakfast with the President."
Lula said previous development strategies have widened the gap
between the rich and the poor, and caused more social inequality. "We
find out that regions receiving less actually need more from the
government," he said. He said balanced development in different regions
helps narrow the gap between the rich and the poor.
