Isipathana clinch 'Suntel' U/16 rugby trophy

The strong Isipathana College team clinched the 'Suntel' trophy in
the U/16 12 A-side rugby tournament beating the formidable St. Peter's
College, 17 points (2 goals 1 drop goal) to nil at the Royal Sports
Complex on 15 and 17 August.
The Isipathana lads played excellent rugby and excelled in every
department to beat the vastly improved St. Peter's College.
The Plate was won by the never say die Royal College who outclassed
St. Joseph's College 17 points (1 goal 2 tries) to nil.
It was nice to see St. Thomas' College Mt. Lavinia and S. Thomas Prep
Col 3 lock horns in the bowl finals. Finally S. Thomas' Mt. Lavinia beat
S. Thomas' Prep by 15 points to nil.
The shield was won by C.W.W. Kannangara College who beat Thurstan
College 19 points to nil, while the Saucer was won by Ananda College
beating Lalith Athulathmudali College by 5 points to nil.
This tournament saw with more than 350 participants from 20 leading
rugby playing schools from Western Province, which was organized by the
Western Province Schools Rugby FA and sponsored by 'Suntel' Ltd. The
Chief Guest was Lalindra Fernando (Brand Manager Suntel Ltd.,) while the
guest of honour was S. Kumarnayaka (V. President WPSRFA). J.G.
Amarajeewa (President WPSRFA), Prasantha Ranaweera (Treasurer), and N.J.
Mudannayake (Coordinator) also gave away the awards to the winners.
The Referees from the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society SLRFU headed
by Vimal Perera (President Rugby Referees Society) did a wonderful job
for two days during the tournament. The final was handled by Referee A.C.
