Police to ensure free and fair election

The Police Department has deployed a strong contingent of over 25,000 police officers in the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces to ensure a violence free election.

According to Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera, this contingent includes officials of Police Intelligence, Anti Riot, Welfare, Communications, Units. These officers will be responsible for the security of polling booths, candidates, voters and the VIPs in these two provinces.

According to SSP Gunasekera, anyone involved in election violence, intimidation or malpractice will be severely dealt with. He said anyone involved in disrupting normality in areas where the PC elections are held will be arrested and released after the election is over.
