‘UNP planning polls day violence’

Anuradhapura: There is a conspiracy in the UNP to stage a number of incidents to intimidate and agitate people on the election day in the North Central Province and put the blame for such violent activities on the UPFA candidates headed by former North Central Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said yesterday.

“From the very start of our Provincial Council election campaign we have been dedicated to be non-violent, law-abiding and decent amidst provocative political activities of the UNP,” said the Minister at a special press conference yesterday at ‘Senasuma’ residence in Anuradhapura.

The Minister said that they were hundred per cent sure and confident of a landslide victory of the UPFA at the coming Provincial Council elections. To page 10
