Advanced Level paper marking process is scheduled to be commenced
today in seven major cities at 20 evaluation centres, the Examination
Commissioner General Anura Edirisinghe said.
Accordingly the evaluation process would be started mainly in
Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Gall, Matara with the participation of
12,000 evaluators.
Addressing the media the Commissioner General pointed out that only
evaluators who are qualified for evaluation process would be involved in
the evaluation process.
“The Examination Department maintains and duly updates the pool of
evaluators for thirty years. These teachers are highly qualified and
well experienced about paper marking. Therefore these evaluators would
participate in the evaluation process” the Examination Commissioner
said.
Only graduate teachers would be employed as evaluators.
But the General English and General Knowledge papers are normally
evaluated also by Diploma and trained teachers, the Commissioner said.
The Government has taken immediate steps to rectify the prevailing
salary anomalies of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service and Principals’
Service, the Secretory to the Education Ministry Nimal Bandara said.
Under this, an interim solution would come to effect from September.
According to the Department of Education statistics more than 215,000
teachers and over 9,700 principals would be benefited from the interim
solution.
The decision of implement the interim solution was taken at a special
meeting held recently by a panel which consisted of Secretory to the
President, officials of Salaries and Cadre Commission, officials of
Finance Ministry and Public Services Commission. |
