Isipathana clinch under 18 Milo rugby trophy
Isipathana College clinched the Milo Champions Trophy in the All
Island under 18, 10-a-side division one rugby tournament by beating the
vastly improved Wesley College by 14 points (2 goals) to 5 (1 try)
played at the Royal Sports Complex on 9th and 10th August respectively.
Both Isipathana and Wesley played fast open rugby and went man to man
with some bone crushing tackling. For Pathana tries came from their
centre Ashan Gallage and winger M. Rizwan one each, while for Wesley the
only try was planted by winger Jude Rodrigo (son of Basil Rodrigo, Rugby
Technical Officer, Uva).
All scoring for both teams were done before lemons. Dharmaraja
College, Kandy and St. Peter's College emerged joint champions in the
Plate after scores were 3-all even after three minutes of extra time.
The Bowl was won by Science College, Mount Lavinia who beat Lumbini
College 21 points to nil. More than 300 participants from 24 schools
took part in this all island competition.
This tournament was organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football
Association and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd while the chief guest was
Bandula Egodage (External Affairs and Activations Manager, Nestle Lanka
Ltd) and the guest of honour was Dr. K. A. D. Punyadasa (President,
SLSRFA).
The referees from the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society did a
fantastic job with their whistle on 9th and 10th, while the final was
officiated by D. Nimal.
