GALLE: Galle High court Judge Chandrasena Rajapaksa sentenced to
death an accused found guilty of killing his friend over iguana meat.
The accused attacked his friend with a door-bar during a dispute over
sharing the flesh of an iguana killed for meat.
Walpita Gamage Gunathilaka was indicted at the Galle High Court for
the murder of Kalutantirige Sirisena alias Somapala, 55 by attacking him
with a door-bar in his house on December 21, 1997 at Meegoda in the
Habaraduwa police area.
At the trial it was revealed that Gunathilake had killed an iguana
and brought the flesh to his house. The two friends cooked the meat and
shared with another friend. In the night, Gunathilake had asked for the
cooked meat.

the curry was over.
