Employees who have completed 20, 15 and 10 years of service were honoured at the 2008 edition of GSK's annual Long Service Awards ceremony at the Mount Lavinia Hotel recently.

Addressing staff gathered to felicitate their colleagues, GSK Pharmaceuticals Managing Director in Sri Lanka Stuart Chapman said: "For GSK, it is not only the work aspect that matters, but also the balance that our people achieve between their work, family, friends and spiritual life."

"At GSK, we strive to ensure that they have the right balance."

"GSK endeavours to provide a work environment in which people can willingly and happily come together to give their best efforts towards the achievement of extraordinary results," he said.

"GSK believes that people do their best work if they are operating in an environment that allows them to do so and rewards them for their achievements.

"At GSK, everyone has the opportunity to do meaningful and challenging work, and everyone is continuously learning and developing their professional potential."

Employees who were recognised for their long service received handsome commemorative plaques and other rewards.

GSK's worldwide support to communities in the countries it operates in well represented in Sri Lanka where one of the company's biggest projects was the commitment of Rs 29 million in the aftermath of the tsunami to help restore healthcare systems and improve service capacity. Other more recent projects included the refurbishment of a ward at the Welisara Chest Hospital and the donation of a fully-equipped High Dependency Unit (HDU) to the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital.
