JHU to participate in APRC next week

The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) will participate in the All Party
Representative Committee (APRC) from next week, ending their three month
long boycott of the Committee.
APRC Chairman Prof. Tissa Vitharana told the Daily News that the
party has informed him in writing that they will take part in the
Committee proceedings scheduled for next week.
The JHU and the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) in April decided to
boycott APRC meetings unless the Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal (TMVP)
led by Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan is
admitted to the Committee.
“The MEP has also indicated that it will come back for APRC
proceedings. But so far, there has been no written communication from
them to this effect,” he said.
According to Prof. Vitharana, the TMVP which participated at the last
session of the Committee is expected to present a subsidiary document on
the issue of devolution next week.
“Earlier, Batticaloa Mayor Sivageetha Prabhakaran handed over a set
of proposals to the Committee on behalf of the TMVP. Other APRC members
have been provided with copies of these proposals,” he added.
