SLT delivers Megaline

IP TV will be commercially available in the local market before end of this month, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer of Sri Lanka Telecom SLT Ajantha Seneviratne said.

Speaking to Daily News Business at the launch of the SLT Megaline packages he said that at the moment they have a few customers for IP TV on a pilot testing process. The company also expects to introduce a range of IP services to the market in the near future.

"There is a trend that local call charges will reduce and comparing with the other countries in the region local call charges are on par with prices of other countries, he said.

SLT Megaline offers wireline connections through a variety of packages that enables customers to choose what services they want including broadband, internet, voice and value added services.

Seneviratne said through this SLT Megaline, they expect to strengthen their wireline segment. "Under this Megaline packages we expect to provide wireline connectivity at an affordable price where they can enjoy voice, data, broadband, email, multimedia services on a single wireline connection.

The new packages will fulfill different requirements of different customers.

Chairperson SLT Leisha De Silva Chandrasena said the local telecommunication industry is on par with the other telecommunication industries in developed countries.

"Today telecommunication providers need to introduce new products that deliver fast speeds with superior quality and greater reliability.

The key challenges in all of this are to provide consumers with more choices, increased flexibility and grater control. SLT Megaline is a initiative in making wireline connectivity affordable as well as opening the doors to take up a range of communication services.

With the introduction of the IP TV, Sri Lankans now can experience a new dimension in the entertainment industry. Interactive TV is very popular in developed countries," she said.

SLT Megaline comprises of four packages; Bronze, which is the basic package with pure wireline connection, Silver, which offers a wireline connection with voice value added services, Gold offering a wireline connection with dial up internet and Platinum consisting of wireline connection with ADSL.

SLT has appointed popular film star Roshan Ranawana as the Brand Ambassador for SLT Megaline to help raise public awareness on the wide range of services such as Voice, Data and Internet available on the SLT Megaline offer.
