Website launch
"People's China", a monthly publication by the Sri Lanka-China Young
Mediamen's forum and its new website www.lankachina.com will be launched
today at 4.00 p.m. at the BMICH, Colombo.
Guest of Honour, Information and Media Minister, Anura Priyadarshana
Yapa and special guest, the Chinese Ambassador Ye Dabo will grace the
occasion.

Book launch
The launch of book China Fort Faiza Kaiz's "Arikindra Deepengal" will
be held on August 10 at 4.30 p.m. at the Y.M.M.A. Auditorium, Dematagoda,
Colombo 9. It will be held under the chairmanship of ITN Director and
Founder of Purawalar Puththaka Poonga Purawalar Hashim Omar.
Former Principal, Al Hidaya Maha Vidyalaya N.U.M.A. Cader will
preside.

A recorded public talk on "The fear of being nothing" delivered by J.
Krishnamurti will be replayed at Anula Nursery School Hall, 310, High
Level Road, Colombo 6 at 9.45 a.m. on August 10.

Memorial Lecture
The Prof. Nandadasa Kodagoda 11th Memorial Lecture will be held on
August 7 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute at 5 p.m. Prof. Narada
Warnasooriya, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri Jayawardenapura will
deliver the memorial lecture on "University Governance and Student
Unrest."

Another Tiger nabbed in TN
A LTTE terrorist was arrested yesterday in Tamil Nadu with contraband
mobile phones that are able to trigger explosions, an official said. The
suspect, K. Selvam, was remanded in judicial custody Tuesday afternoon
by a local court.
The number of Sri Lankans arrested with terror attack equipment,
including electronic detonators, fuel, bomb components, during the past
one week has gone up to six with Selvam’s arrest.
The arrested Sri Lankans include Thambianna alias Daniel, a senior
operative of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Prayers for stampede victims
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community offers sincere condolences to the
victims of a stampede in northern Indian State of Himachal Pradesh.
According to news reports dozens of people attending a nine day Hindu
religious festival in the region have died.
Many of the victims were children, trampled to death during the
panic. Press spokesman of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Sri Lanka,
Abdul Aziz said:
On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Sri Lanka, I would like
to offer our utmost condolences to all those who have been injured or
bereaved. May God Almighty grant strength and patience to the victims of
this tragedy.”

Houses for H’tota district
Permanent houses will be built in ten cities under ‘Slum Free City’
Programme functioning under the Nagarika Dilindu Niwasa Arunodaya
project in the Hambantota district.
During the first phase of the project Rs. one million will be spent
for the setting up of houses in Hambantota district.
Tangalle and Hambantota DS areas have been identified as the most
suitable places in the district.
