MAS Slimline women's rugby champions

MAS Slimline clinched the Cup Championship when they defeated Sri Lanka Army Sports Club by 31 points to 5 points in the women's seven a side rugby tournament final worked off at the Royal College Sports Complex ground in Reid Avenue on Saturday.

MAS Slimline collected their points from three goals and two tries after having led 19 nil at half time.

Sri Lanka Army SC managed to score only a solitary try.

Skipper and wing three quarter Sandeepa Sandamali who was named best player of the tournament scored two tries along with prop forward Erosha Fernando(2) and centre Ayesha Sewandhi (1).

Earlier in the semifinals MAS Slimline trounced Sabaragamuwa by a massive margin of 59 points to nil and Sri Lanka Army SC had the better of MAS Active Suynegy.

A total of twelve teams participated in this tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) with the aim of selecting a pool in preparation for the women's World Cup qualifier.
