Security tightened in Tamil Nadu
Central intelligence agencies have alerted Tamil Nadu of a possible
terrorist attack on religious installations. To start with, security at
Madurai Meenakshi temple has been enhanced with more police personnel, a
dog squad and metal detectors.
The state intelligence had recently busted a terrorist module
operating out of Mannadi in Chennai with ‘specific plans’. The plans of
this module were near-operational when the police cracked down on it.
However, the leaders of this module, Toufeeque and Abu Dahir, managed to
escape.
Sources said that this time the alert from the Intelligence Bureau
and also from the state’s own intelligence wing mentioned specific
target points in the state. The warning has said that Lashkar-e-Taiba
was planning to attack places of worship in the state.
Meanwhile, the Erode district police on Saturday raided 30 private
godowns selling gelatine sticks and detonators meant for stone quarrying
and blasting wells.
Police are looking at the possibility of the detonators used in the
Bangalore blasts having been sourced from these godowns. Times of India
