A. Keerthisinghe Alawwa special correspondent
The Opposition parties instead of acting with a sense of
responsibility, went on creating public unrest against the Government at
a time its security forces are set to clear the North-East after its
successful campaign, said North Western Province Chief Minister Athula
Wijesinghe at Alawwa.
The Chief Minister was addressing a foundation laying ceremony for
the proposed two storeyed building of Ratanalankara Maha Vidyalaya,
Alawwa.
Wijesinghe said that this is not the time for the opposition UNP to
bring the public into the streets as they did a couple of weeks ago, as
this kind of activities could provide the necessary edge for the LTTE to
achieve these sinister moves.
Their targets have been civilian for the past time and it is
unpatriotic by any political party to take steps that upset the
Government at this juncture because it was the greater importance that
the public get behind the Government and Security Forces to support them
to defeat the LTTE.
North Western PC member and the SLFP organiser for Dambadeniya
Shantha Bandara said that besides all these UNP demonstrations were
based on increased oil prices and food shortage, which are beyond the
control of the Government.
There are two international issues that have afflicted economies of
the world.
