Commonwealth posting for Ferial

Housing and Common Amenities Minister Ferial Ashraff has been elected as the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Steering Committee representatives for the Asia region.

This is the first occasion, where this position will be held by a Sri Lankan woman Parliamentarian.

It has been held in the past by Indian and Pakistan women Parliamentarians.

The current holder of this position, Kashmala Tarig from the Pakistan Parliament will hand over her duties in September 2008.

Ashraff will take over her official duties as the Asian Region member in September 2008 and hold office till 2009. The Minister will participate in the CWP Steering Committee Meeting on August 2, 2008 in Malaysia.
