Setting standards, the Laboratory of Asiri Hospitals received ISO
9001:2000 certification from Det Norske Veritas - Netherlands. This is
the first time a private sector medical laboratory in Sri Lanka has
received this prestigious recognition.
“We are proud of this achievement as it reflects our commitment to
private healthcare in the country. This is a validation of our hard work
and uncompromising standards at Asiri Hospital,” said Dr. Manjula
Karunaratne, COO Asiri Hospitals.
In a congratulatory message, Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition,
Nimal Siripala de Silva said that this honor and recognition is
indicative of the high standards set by a private sector hospital and is
in line with the Ministry’s efforts to improve the quality of the
private health sector through the Private Medical Institutions Act
implemented by the Government.
Secretary to the Ministry, Dr. Kahandaliyanage commended the Director
of the Asiri Lab and added that ‘it is encouraging to note that the
Hospital has taken its own initiative to upgrade its services to
accommodate the requirements of this Act in order to provide quality of
care to the people of Sri Lanka’.
The Laboratories of the Asiri Group of Hospitals are located at Asiri
Medical, Kirula Road and Asiri Surgical, Kirimandala Mawatha and are
open 24 x 7 and conducts around 8000 tests daily.
Diagnostic tests are accurately completed in three main purposes:
screening, confirmation and to monitor the prognosis of illnesses, and
are done under strict standards monitored by internal and external
quality controls.
The Lab is a member of American Association for Clinical Chemistry
and the Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute, USA for over 10
years.
“Our ultimate service to our patients is quality and accuracy in the
least possible time,” said Director Laboratories Neil Priyath John.
According to him, the Lab boasts of state-of-the-art equipment that is
able to detect and quantify the nature of the illness, thereby making
the treatment for doctor and patient most appropriate.
Director of the Private Health Sector Development, Amal Harsha de
Silva said that as a pioneer of healthcare in Sri Lanka, Asiri Hospitals
has paved the way for quality, dedication and comfort to patients and
congratulated the staff and Directors for this great achievement.
The Group has off site Laboratories in Colombo 7 (Asiri Central
Hospital), Matara, Ragama, Kalubowila, Kandy, Kurunegala and Negombo.
The results are delivered in quick time providing relief for patients
who would otherwise have to spend time and money on travel and
accommodation.”
In addition, the Asiri Mobile Unit consisting of Lab and ECG services
is just a phone call away. This is a boon to feeble and the elderly
patients who would otherwise have to undergo immense discomfort.
