School for the Deaf, Ratmalana bags three titles

The school for the Deaf, Ratmalana came out with flying colours and displayed their talents by annexing the three Caltex Champions trophies in netball, cricket and volleyball (boys) and the Caltex Runners-up trophy in volleyball (girls) at the deaf schools sports activities.

These were organized by the Deaf School Past Pupils' Association The School for the Deaf Ratmalana under well known former sports star Shivantha Vivekanandan who is the President and Chairman Organizing Committee, Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa won the Caltex Champions trophy in volleyball (girls).

These were partnered by Chervon Lubricants Lanka PLC for the seventh successive year, held recently.

The deaf schools netball and six-a-side softball cricket tournaments were held at the Shalika Grounds, Colombo 5 and the Deaf Schools Volleyball Tournament was held at The School for the Deaf grounds, Ratmalana.

Finals - Cricket

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Rohana Special School, Matara. The school for the Deaf - 33 for 4 in 5 overs. Rohana Special School - 29 in 4.5 overs. Best Batsman - Niroshan Darshana (The school for the Deaf, Ratmalana), Best Bowler - G. H. P. Rajitha (Rohana Special School,' Matara), Best Fielder - Gayan Shantha (The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana), Man of the Match - Niroshan Darshana (The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana).

Netball Finals

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Siviraja Deaf and Blind school, Matara 10/4. Best Playr - Y. R. Dishani Damayanthie (Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa). Best Shooter - Eranga Sadamali (The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana)

Bertram Paul, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Cheroon Lubricants Lanka PLC was the chief guest while Kingsley Munaweera. Chairman, Special Olympics, Sri Lanka was the guest of honour, they distributed the awards including all the gifts to the participants.

Volleyball Boys Final

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Sudarshi School for the Deaf and Blind, Bandarawela 25/22, 25/13

Best player - K. Damith Iroshana (The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana).

Volleyball - Girls Finals

Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa beat The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana 25/17, 25/18. Best player - Y. R. Dishani Damayanthi (Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa).

Rohana Somawansa, Vice President, Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation was the chief guest while Niloufer Vandaergert, Manager Event Sponsorship and public relations, Cheroon Lubricants Lanka PLC was the Guest of Honour. They gave away the awards including the gifts to all participants.
