Three semi finalists found

Layton Cup Boxing Championship:

S. A. M. Chandrasekera (Army), T. D. N. Samaranayake (Slimline) and T. M. C. Tennekoon (Army) were the first to secure a places in the semi finals in the light fly weight under 48 kgs weight category on the first day of the 66th Layton Cup Boxing Championship conducted by the Amatuer Boxing Association of Sri Lanka at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium Ring yesterday.

Chandrasekera beat W. A. K. Lasantha of the Sri Lanka Air Force by 22 points to 2 when the referee stopped the bout in the third round. Samaranayake (Slimline) got the better out of L. S. Lakmal (22/7) also from Slimline. In the same weight category Army's Tennekoon beat H. M. Gamage (Navy) by 39 points to 29.

Pre-Preliminaries.

Bantam weight under 54 kgs.Lakshman Kumara (Army) beat R. K. Wickremasinghe (Army) 16/7.

Feather weight under 57 Kgs. O. R. B. Samaranayake (Army) beat R. M. Gunatileka (Slimline) 23/21.

Light weight under 60 Kgs. S. H. Karunaratne (Army) beat P. R. Rajapakse (Slimline) 36/31.

Light welter weight under 64 Kgs. D. M. Dissanayake (Army) received a walk over from H. A. Wettasingha (Air Force). E. M. Edirisinghe (Air Force) beat A. G. N. Bandara (Army) RSC 26/17. Welter weight under 69 kgs. A. D. P. Indika (Army) beat R. P. Weerasinghe (Air Force) 26/17.

Quarter finals.

Light fly weight under 48 kgs. S. A. M. Chandrasekera (Army) beat W. A. Lasantha (Air Force) 22/2. T. D. N. Samaranayake (Slimline) beat L. S. Lakmal (Slimline) 22/7. T. M. C. Tennekoon (Army) beat H. M. Gamage (Navy) 39/29.

The meet will be continued today at 5 pm at the same venue.
