The LTTE always resorted to the tactic of a unilateral ceasefire when
cornered militarily, Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, Parliamentary Group
Leader of Jathika Hela Urumaya said at a media conference at Mahaweli
Centre Auditorium yesterday.
“The LTTE has suffered a huge blow to its morale and is now seeking
international support through the SAARC summit” Ven. Rathana Thera
stressed.
Rathana Thera said that child soldiers and the people who are in the
uncleared areas are trying to escape from the LTTE grip. The war only
being conducted by their top leaders.
He said the President had clearly mentioned the Government stand that
no ceasefire is possible without the Tigers surrendering their arms
through proper channels, the Thera noted.
The LTTE has been isolated by the international community and even by
their own people too. The power of the LTTE has been crippled. The only
thing that LTTE could do is to declare a unilateral ceasefire to regain
its lost power. This is the usual behaviour of the LTTE.
He said the JHU will extend its fullest support to the Government in
Sabaragamuwa and NCP due to its stand against terrorism. It is clear to
eradicate the LTTE terrorism from the country.
JHU Media Secretary Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe said that their party
has no objection on the issue of deploying foreign troops to Sri Lanka
for the purpose of safeguarding their leaders but not to cover the
entire SAARC summit.
“We oppose underestimating of our troops at any level due to the
victories in the North against the LTTE terrorism. |
