Book on Art of Sculpture presented to President
The special book on the evolution of Sri Lanka's art of sculpture
from 2-18AD was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (22)
at Temple Trees.
The preliminary work on the book was undertaken during the tenure of
the premiership of President, Mahinda Rajapaksa. He was also the
Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Central Cultural Fund.
About 100 books will be printed under this programme. Of the total of
100 books, 30 on the evolution of Sri Lanka maps have been printed, and
a further 30 on Sri Lanka's art of sculpture and another 30 on Sri
Lanka's architecture would be printed. The remainder will be on
different subjects.
The series titled 'Buddha' presented to the President yesterday
consist of 30 volumes and are printed in Sinhala, English and Tamil
media.
The Central Cultural Fund together with Archaeology Department have
compiled these books and they include descriptions of 36 special statues
such as Mahailuppalama statue, Abahayagiri statue and Purasankulama,
Pankuliya and Maligawila statues. |
