Consultant Multi Media Company Japan, Y. Nakamura said both the Japanese and Korean population are aging and there is a demand for youth labour.

“Chinese and Vietnamese are already using this opportunity while the South Asian countries are yet to harness benefits from this high paying segment,” he said.

He also said opportunities are available in the construction, agricultural and industrial areas and each youth can earn over Rs. 125,000 per month with all expenses being provided.

He added that language proficiency is the key to get employment in both these countries and a minimum of 250 hours of study is a must. Chairman of the newly set up Sheik One Lanka Language Centre, Upali Keppitipola said their institute was formed to serve this market.

“We have instructors from Korea and Japan who not only teach the language but also teach the customs and the history of the country,” he said.

He stressed that their recruitment arm was also launched recently to be the go between both these countries. “We have observed that for the past decade less than 925 have found employment through legal channels and for the next one year due to negotiations from Sri Lankan authorities there would be over 1,000 employment opportunities only from Japan,” he said.
